For simplicity of use you should hang the fixture approximately 30-50cm above the canopy, and adjusting height as your plants grow. If any stress on plants {too much heat} are noticed adjust the light accordingly.
LED Lights produce way less heat, so managing heat is much easier, as well as the power output which is far less than HID lamps. Some LED lights the spectrum can be adjusted to suit the different stages in the growing cycle, which can not be achieved with a HID lamp. Various other LED lighting, like the LUMii black fixture give a much more even coverage across the top of the plants unlike HID lighting which is reflected from centre of bulb outwards and diminishing.
The ballast can be fixed to the LED fixture using the brackets / fixings supplied. However the ballast can be put elsewhere up to 10 metres away from the lighting using the LUMii extension /link lead which can be supplied separately. The advantage of this is that you can move the LUMii ballast away from the room, so that you are not adding more heat to the grow room and also ease of use so you can operate LUMii digital ballast without entering the grow area.
