What can be grown in hydroponics?

When growing hydroponically, the possibilities are near on endless, there is a wide variety of plants that can be grown in hydroponic systems as opposed to what cant.

Depending on the different types of hydro system you use, you can utilise many forms of fruit and vegetables.

If you are using 'Nutrient Film Technology', blueberries, spinach and a lot of herbs are great for NFT tables offering you simple harvests with little maintenance needed.

Lettuce is one of the easiest vegetables to grow in a hydroponics setting, with super fast growing times and it being a simple plant to grow makes it a great choice.

Strawberries perform well in an 'Ebb & Flood'/ 'Flood & Drain'system enabling you to harvest perfect and luscious strawberries all year round.

Tomatoes perform exceptionally well in hydroponic systems also giving you the ability to achieve all year round harvests.

Cucumbers, beans, microgreens & beets are all fast growing and perfect for hydroponics systems, whether it be indoor or outdoor.

However, large root vegetables such as potatoes, squash and zucchini are not suitable for hydroponic growing due to having such large roots & systems which are a heavy drain on nutrient reservoirs. These “root heavy” plants are often more suited to the ground in a soil medium.

This does not mean that hydroponic growing of these vegetables is not possible, but more suited to the experienced grower and large buckets. Melons and corn cause problems in hydroponic systems by being too heavy or too tall. Vine crops that grow large root systems and need to be supported by trellis netting are also not widely suitable for hydroponic systems.
